When Danielle reached out to us and told us she was having her wedding on a train we couldn’t have been more excited for the idea. Her and Matt were going to be the very first wedding for the Cumbres + Toltec Railroad and we were so honored to be a part of the day. Matt and Danielle are from Chicago and met online. The two hit it off over bowling and pizza and when Matt proposed they came up with the idea of a destination wedding through the countryside on a train. Matt loves trains, especially steam trains, so it was the perfect fit for the couple. Danielle decorated the parlor car with beautiful pom poms and florals and guests passed between cars enjoying the open gondala car while sipping cocktails. The train stopped in Cumbres to refill for water and this was the perfect spot for their ceremony. On the classic red caboose, the couple said I do with breathtaking mountains in the background and fields of wildflowers that surrounded their guests.
We hopped back on the train and stopped at multiple jaw dropping locations. Weaving through the New Mexico and Colorado countryside, we saw huge gorges and happy elk stopping for water by the winding rivers, massive bridges and rock tunnels and multiple scenes of untouched beauty. You wouldn’t believe how pristine the landscape was. After a quick stop for some dinner, cake and dancing we continued to our final stop in San Antonio before we were charted by bus back to Chama.
We can’t even begin to express how grateful we are for being included in this incredibly unique experience. Thank you Danielle + Matt, and we wish you many years of happiness!
