Erica and Casey met while attending New Mexico State University. He was best friends with her cousin, Stephen, and it was through him that their friendship began. While at a country concert, the pair began to talk and then realized how much that they had in common. After the concert, Erica sent Casey a DM on Instagram to give him her number and say that he could text her… only to wake up in the morning and realize, to her horror, that there had been a typo in the message, and she had instead said: “you can’t text me.” Obviously they got passed it, and now it’s a part of their story that they love to laugh about.
To propose, Casey planned a Valentines Day trip to Iceland. Erica had always wanted to go on a trip somewhere for this particular holiday, and she says, “Iceland was a dream come true.” (And we can certainly testify to its beauty… check out our Icelandic elopement here!) They toured the Golden Circle before stopping at the Gullfoss Waterfall. Going to the edge of one of the viewing points, Erica waited while Casey asked a stranger passing by to take a photo of them. Little did Erica know, he was really telling the woman that he was about to propose, and asked her to take as many photos as possible. Then he returned to the edge with his about-to-be fiancée and asked the question. Not bad for their first trip out of the country together! That night they went out and watched the northern lights— the absolute perfect way to celebrate their engagement.
When we saw that their planner for their big day was Danessa of Black Bow Events, we knew this wedding was going to be amazing! We first worked with Danessa recently on our epic rock and roll themed styled shoot (which you can view here,) so we couldn’t wait to see what she and Erica would come up with! The absolutely incredibly flower wall was made by Erica herself, and it took her months! But it was worth it, because it made our jaws drop! She also handmade their awesome “‘Til Death” arch, all the centerpieces, and décor. Erica looked absolutely stunning with her hair swept to the side with waves in a classic old Hollywood look. She also rocked sparkly boots and a gem encrusted denim jacket that said Mrs. Martinez on the back. LOVED IT. Casey sported velvet loafers and a black floral print jacket that was equally as posh. The couple surprised guests with not only a mariachi band… but a tequila donkey! They all said this was one of the best weddings they had been too, and we agree. We positively loved how trendy and gorgeous this wedding was, like an elegant garden theme with a modern twist!
Congratulations to the both of you, and we wish you all the best!
