Maura Jane Photography Fall Workshop 2019

Twice a year the Maura Jane team hosts a workshop for budding photographers. I am a believer in the concept of community over competition and feel like this is a way I can strengthen the photography industry as a whole. The workshop includes over 8 hours of education, starting with a sitdown talk where we go over everything from client experience to workflow. It ends with a beautiful styled shoot for everyone to help build their portfolio while I teach them posing, lighting and styling.

This workshop I feel was our best yet, as the vendors who helped put the styled shoot together really hit it out of the park. Our beautiful models Allison and James, who were married 2 years ago, were so gracious to get in front of my camera again while I explained posing. Allison looked stunning in her long sleeve Maggie Sottero gown, courtesy of Bridal Elegance by Darlene, with her hair romantically swept back, done by DRS Color Studio. She held an organic bouquet designed by The Flower Company full of protea and craspedia, perfectly matching our color scheme of mustard and sage. The table was set Thanksgiving style full of fruits and a charcuterie board by Olive and Rose, plus champagne and yummy chiffon pumpkin pies at each seat by Emerald Pie Bar. The menus that accompanied each chair were designed by Funky Olive and matched the eclectic china from Dirty Dishes perfectly, getting us all excited for Thanksgiving. A beautiful mustard loveseat awaited the couple as they sipped champagne and anticipated cake, which was created by Honey and Salt, and oh, what a cake it was! All of this was envisioned and designed by the amazing Alexis of Magnolia and Rose, who absolutely floored me with her creativeness.

This year we decided to add headshots to the itinerary for our attendees! Every business owner needs an awesome headshot, so we were more than happy to provide that for these awesome photographers.

Here are some behind the scenes from the day! We started off with an educational presentation, followed by an extensive Q+A.

We then dove in to detail styling and flatlays!

Moving outside, we learned about photographing reception details, posing and lighting. Here are some of our awesome vendors at work!
