It’s always such a bizarre feeling to switch from being behind the camera to in front of it. It definitely gives me a new appreciation for our couples and brings to light how funny posing can feel at times! However, I am so lucky to have such an amazing support team who know so well how to keep things light hearted and fun.
I almost didn’t do a maternity session… When I started to gain weight, and when the hip and groin pain started to prevent me from working out, I had no desire to get in front of a camera and show off my changing body. However, I quickly realized that I would look back at this moment in my life and feel I missed an opportunity to document something incredibly beautiful.
Since I am due in March, the best time for us to take maternity photos of course falls in the coldest time of year. I was not going to get to take pretty blossom photos or photos with any greenery at all really, so I was determined to use a location that wouldn’t be full of cold, dead foliage. I decided on a spot that has become really special to us out in San Ysidro, NM. The New Mexico landscape truly shines in this spot, and the cliffs and hills look like they are painted with watercolors. I spoiled myself and had my makeup and hair done by the amazing Genica Lee and spent quite a bit of time trying to find the perfect dress. I was nervous that renting a dress from online would mean I was in trouble if it came and didn’t fit, especially with not knowing how to buy things for my pregnant body AT ALL. However, when I received the package in the mail, I could not get over just how stunning this handmade dress was in person. Embroidered lace, delicate sequins and fringe, and the most beautiful train. The dresses are designed to synch around your waist and tie around the neck, so it ended up fitting perfect! Flutter Dress, you sure know how to make gorgeous pieces of art!
The day of the shoot we hiked out to the beautiful white mesa wilderness and were greeted by the MOST FREEZING weather. The wind ripped right through what I was wearing. Hannah and Sarah kept me smiling though with their constant jokes and silliness. Thanks girls, I cant remember the last time I have been so cold!
Here is are my favorites from our session! We can’t wait to meet this sweet baby girl of ours!
