Christi and Clay’s meeting was something out of a romantic comedy, as what initially brought them together was a funeral. See, Christi and Clay’s parents actually grew up together and were friends into their 30’s, but then her mom moved away and they lost connection, and that’s when Christi was born.
While the person who was passing away was still in the hospital, Clay wasn’t there, but his parents were, and his mom fell head over heels for Christi. A week later was the funeral, and although it was an unfortunate event, it’s what truly brought everybody back together, and it’s where these two officially met. Another week later, Clay and Christi went on their first date… which ended up lasting 10.5 hours! When Christi finally came home, her mom knew that Clay wouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
Christi is a Colorado native, so they would often take trips up north, especially for anniversaries. On their four year anniversary, the pair travelled to Ouray, Colorado, and little did Christi know, Clay had planned everything down to the very last detail: he hired a local photographer to hide in the trees and secretly capture photos while he proposed by their favorite waterfall, and then they had a mini photoshoot!
The date they chose for their wedding is one that is very special to them. Their first date was April 24th, 2016, with Clay proposing on April 24th, 2020, so they found it appropriate to exchange their vows on April 24th, 2021.
We were so happy to witness this couple’s gorgeous union on the stunning Manzano Mountain Retreat, and we wish them the utmost joy and love in the years to come!
