I was, and still am, obsessed with my wedding shoes. They were the most beautiful shoes you’ve ever seen.
You’ve spent so much time and energy pouring into every little detail of your big day, So, in some ways, the details set the stage for the look of the whole wedding!
I mean, the whole day begins with the DETAILS!
This is also one of our favorite parts of the wedding day because it allows us to prepare and get our creative side warmed up for the rest of the day. We ask brides to gather any details they have before we arrive so that we can walk in, say hello, give you a huge hug and then begin with all the goodies! If possible, collect all of your details before we arrive so that we can begin quickly and have more time for some “getting ready” shots of you and your girls!
To ensure that you get photos of your details to remember forever, make a check list of the items you want photos of before the wedding. On the wedding day make sure you have them all with you when your photographer arrives.
Here are the details we recommend you bring:
-Dress:
(Please ensure your mom that I will take GREAT care of the dress, I promise!) We know how much thought and time went into picking your dream dress so we want to make sure we get gorgeous photos of it on the hanger, and on you. We’ll get photos of the lace, buttons, belt, the whole package! We always recommend bringing your dress on a pretty hanger. Many brides love getting custom hangers with their new name on it. But a simple one will do too! If you do have a custom hanger, we’ll get shots of that too!!
-Veil/ Hair pieces
Same thing goes here! Don’t worry, we’ll get photos of you with them on, but it’s nice to have some close ups of your hair piece on a nice background, and we love using your veil to take photos of other details. It adds such a magical and romantic feel to all your detail photos!
-Rings (All three!)
The most common detail missing when we arrive are the rings! Moms, officiants and planners will tell you to hand over your wedding band to the best man before the day begins. However, it’s actually better to hand it over during the bridal party portraits so that we can shoot some great ring shots in the AM! If you forget, no worries, we can always shoot the ring shot at the reception if there is extra time!
Try to get your ring cleaned before your wedding day! Many local and chain jewelers will clean it right there in front of you for no charge! This way your ring will be extra sparkly!
-Invitation suite:
We love getting details with everything from start to finish. This includes the invitation suite. And we know that on your big day, you don’t need to be stressing out about whether or not you brought extras. So we’ll ask you to mail one to us when you send them out, and we’ll worry about that detail for you. This will include the RSVP card, save the dates, and official invitations. As well as any other paper goods you’ll have included in your suite. Include an extra stamp if it’s special or customized inside the envelope to be captured.
-Bouquet and Boutonniere:
Don’t forget the bouquet! Have the bouquets and boutonniere delivered to the bride before the first look so that she can have her bouquet in her portraits. No worries, if it’s hot, we’ll be sure to keep it in water as much as possible before the ceremony!
-Shoes:
Unfortunately, most people won’t see them. And unless your dress is short, they won’t show up in photos. And I’m sure you chose something stunning, so let’s get photos of them! If you’ve taken the time to break your shoes in first, make sure to wipe them down before the big day! That way they won’t look dirty in photos and they won’t get anything else scuffed up.
-Jewelry and perfume:
Many brides have purchased a brand new perfume just for their wedding day. This way when they smell it, it’ll remind them of the best day of their life. And we’re loving this trend! So if you have decided to have a wedding scent, let’s get photos of it! We love getting photos of you spraying it, holding it, or even just by itself. Those bottles are always so pretty!
-Garters:
Many couples are phasing out the garter toss, so we don’t always get photos of them. If you are doing one, make sure it’s there for us before you get dressed! After you get your dress on, and right before you put on your shoes and head out, we’ll grab a quick photo of you putting your garter on!
-Something old, new, borrowed, and blue:
Many times these are family heirlooms, or pieced passed onto us by those we’ve lost. These details tend to have much more sentimental value to brides. And we understand why! I wore my late grandmothers ring on my wedding day! It’s nice to have a piece of those beloved family members with you. Have these all gathered together so that we can capture those moments for you.
-Anything else you want:
We’ve seen so many other ideas!
We’ve had brides with photo lockets on their bouquet, bracelets they gave to their bridesmaids, embroidery on the inside of a dress, or a grooms tie.
Tell us when you have these special details!
We wouldn’t have known to look at the grooms tie clip (A gift from the bride with their wedding date) unless they had told us about it!
So always let us know that you want a photo of it!
